Poetry

Unamed - Lin Edroff

You were the sun in sunshine
The light to guide my way
You were the joy in joyful
But still you couldn't stay.
You were my precious "baby"
My daughter and my friend
My pride, my heart, my angel
Now my life is at an end.
I know I'll go on living
And still do the things I do
But nothing feels the same to me
Since the day that I lost you.
The tears are never far away
And the pain is always here
An emptiness, a void within
Now you're no longer near.
If only I could hold you close
Or just hear you call my name
Or see you shout and stamp your feet
When angry or in pain.
But all I have are memories
Of the girl I love so true
Sarah, I don't know what to do
Since the day that I lost you
I miss you more than words can say
I miss you all the time
I miss your noise and funny ways
I miss 'cause you're mine.

Don't Dance so Fast

Have you ever watched kids
On a merry-go-round?
Or listened to the rain
Slapping on the ground?
Ever followed a butterfly's erratic flight?
Or gazed at the sun into the fading night?
You'd better slow down
Don't dance so fast
Time is short
The music won't last.

Do you run through each day on the fly?
When you ask 'How are you?'
Do you hear the reply?
When each day is done, do you lie in your bed
With the next hundred chores running through your head?
You'd better slow down
Don't dance so fast
Time is short
The music won't last.

Ever told your child, we'll do it tomorrow?
And in your haste not seen his sorrow?
Ever lost touch, let a good friendship die?
'Cause you never had time to call and say 'hi'?
You'd better slow down
Don't dance so fast
Time is short
The music won't last.

When you run so fast to get somewhere
You miss half the fun of getting there
When you worry and hurry through your day
It's like an unopened gift, thrown away.
Life's not a race
Do take it slower
Hear the music
Before the song is over."

Do Not Stand at my Grave and Weep - Mary Elizabeth Frye

"Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glint on the snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry
I am not there, I did not die."

A Poem from Sarah's 21st Birthday - Granddad Hindle

So you have reached the age of twenty one
We have been here since you were none
We have watched you grow over the years
Seen you all smiles and sometimes in tears
But you have made it to this wonderful age
So I must compose for you a page

Oh how I remember you in your pram
Yourlittle round face all covered in jam
A little red nose and bright red cheeks
Are captured in pictures that I keep
But the prettiest pictures in my books
Are those taken with your maturer looks

You are on your way to a good career
And I hope your life is full of cheer
There will be times that you are sad
So remember tne words of your GRANDDAD
Hold your head up high and give a smile
It will all come right in a little while
